Bickerings on Church Matters

From the Brooklin column in the July 29, 1887, Whitby Chronicle:

BROOKLIN.

[We have a letter this week from Brooklin again stirring up the feelings of the people there in regard to church matters. The writer of the letter makes it quite personal, but takes care to reserve his own personality to himself. It is only when personalities are introduced that we are bound to know who the writer is. In other ordinary discussions we don't care who the writer of a communication is. At any rate we consider it is time this discussion is closed. We fancy the noisy portion of the Brooklin people are too thin-skinned and too anxious to find fault, and bitterness is added to their strife by the efforts of a few people whose private hatreds have led them to be the scorpions of society all their lives. The man who publishes the Times seems to be of this stamp, ___________________ that if they will fight out all the rows he can kick up they will have their hands full most of the time, and will never be any better off for their bickerings. -- ED.]
